About the job

You will be the Program Purchaser responsible for strategic and operational procurement of materials used in sodium-ion batteries. You will be responsible for creating a supply chain for state-of-the-art sodium-ion batteries, solving challenges of a new chemistry, but also apply best practices and processes from our lithium-ion business. You will work closely with our sodium-ion cell engineering team to identify the right partners, create timely sourcing decisions and assure availability of materials at cost and in time. This role will also work closely with Northvolt’s supply chain organization which owns material categories and supports the execution of your supply chain strategy. As the first point of contact for the sodium-ion engineering team for all matters on material supply chain, you require a broad knowledge base to converge all procurement activities necessary for sodium-ion batteries such as purchasing operations, procurement strategy, know-how of localization and supplier quality.

On a day-to-day basis you will be close with the supply chain team, engineering team, partners, and suppliers to identify and resolve blockers and risks. This means driving and owning your work in a cross-functional, fast-paced, and project-based environment. As this job requires working very tightly with different cross-functional teams, you need to be a great communicator.
You are expected to be highly creative in finding solutions to push both yourself and your colleagues from various teams to ensure progress is made in the project. You need to be up to speed on constantly changing circumstances and evaluate proposed solutions from different stakeholders' perspectives, making non-biased decisions that are the most beneficial overall.

About the team

You will join a fairly new effort and thus, a small but dedicated team which will grow with the progress of this project. This role gives you the opportunity to be part of an exciting new project from the beginning and allows you to grow and take on additional responsibility fast. The team includes cell design engineers, material engineers, manufacturing engineers and technical project managers, however, this project requires cross-functional contribution across the entire organization which will be one of the main responsibilities of this role. In this position, you will join a passionate team that is driven by creating an even more sustainable product which will make a significant impact for Northvolt and the transition towards a greener future.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Manage existing supplier base for sodium-ion related materials and be the key point of contact towards vendors
  • Consolidate all procurement activities for sodium-ion batteries and create a long-term supply chain strategy for sodium-ion batteries
  • Monitor market trends and activate new suppliers for sodium-ion related materials and products
  • Support Category Managers in improving category strategy, competitor strategies and market suppliers
  • Responsible for contracts from RFQ to contract setup, nomination until contract execution
  • Updating contract database and ERP systems as necessary, issuing and revisiting POs, supporting spend analysis and managing vendor disputes

This position includes travelling to project sites as well as to suppliers.

We believe that you have

  • A technical or commercial degree such as Industrial/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Business Administration
  • 5 years of experience in procurement and contract management
  • Experience identifying requirements and specifications
  • Excellent English written and oral skills

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills

  • Highly organized and result-driven
  • People-person and ability to build strong relationships

  • Understanding of high-tech product development
  • Experience in new battery chemistries and designs

  • Experience from a multi-cultural environment
